Summary

Republican Maienschein came to the Assembly via the San Diego City Council. He is one of a vanishing breed of moderate Republicans. He was one of two incumbent Republican to earn an endorsement from Equality California, the state's largest LGBT organization.  He wants to continue to work on protecting public safety, build a strong economy, and improve public education.

Analysis

The Assemblyman finds himself in a fight to the finish with a surprisingly strong Democratic opponent. Don’t discount the power of incumbency.

Summary

Small Business Owner/Democrat Gover is newcomer to politics, she is a small business owner and a public school mom. Lived in the district for 18 years.  She is dedicated to community service including recreational soccer coach, public-school volunteer/fundraiser, advocate for women’s and LGBTQ rights, environmental protections and animal welfare.  She has served adults with special needs, homeless orphans in Tijuana, early victims of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Analysis

Democrats in Sacramento have decided the 77th is flippable, and support is pouring in for candidate Gover. She’s getting the full treatment: big name politicos walking the district with her and --reportedly-- enough cash to run a respectable race.
