Endorsement Process for 2018 Midterms

During our September 2018 meeting, members of San Diego Indivisible Downtown met to vote on endorsements ahead of the November 2018 Midterm Elections.

Because we place a high value on transparency throughout our organization, we'd like to share an FAQ on the endorsement process.  Should you have any questions, please email us.

Why only a limited number of endorsements?

  • We want our endorsements to mean something. If we considered endorsing in every race, it would spread us too thin. With a limited number of endorsements, it allows our chapter to focus our efforts.

How did you select the races in which to endorse?

  • Close races where our endorsement could impact results

  • Where one candidate is clearly more aligned with our values

What does an endorsement by SDID mean?

  • Endorsed candidates receive a special designation in our forthcoming voter guide

  • Endorsed candidates & their events are a priority in our communications to members

  • Endorsed campaigns were welcomed at our September 30th meeting to gather volunteer signups from our membership

What will constitute an endorsement?

  • Votes by members at the September 30th meeting - 2/3 of members in favor will result in an endorsement

How were candidates evaluated?

  • Over the past 18 months, SDID members have voted to establish a set of values.  A team of 7 volunteers from SDID compared the candidates' stances on these key issues to our vision of these values and ranked each on a scale of 0-2.

    • 0 = Does not align at all

    • 1 = Somewhat aligns

    • 2 = Aligns
